Big Country Hoe-downOn April 12th, 1975, the Gympie Rotary Club organised another successful function at Thornside called the Webb Brothers Big Country Hoe-Down. The information sheet for the function promoted events such as manned kite flying, a bucking mule, donkey rides, buggy rides, bullock teams, a challenge race (man, quarter horse, motor bike) and horse events. Prizes for senior events were 1st - $12, 2nd - $5, 3rd $2 and for junior events were 1st - $6, 2nd - $3, 3rd - $1. For the tug of war there was a $12 prize for seniors and $6 for juniors. There were also a licensed booth, food stalls and a barbeque. The evening entertainment, that started at 6.15pm featured the Webb Brothers, Maria Dallas and John McSweeney. Admission for the day was $2 for adults and 50c for children under 15. |
