Home pageWhat is CMwiki?CMwiki is an "open-editing" system designed to encourage those in the Australian country music community to quickly and easily create and/or edit online content related to Australian country music. If you wish to get straight into it, you may start by reading this How to start or else continue reading this page for more general information. From this website, a person can edit almost any page in CMwiki by clicking on the "Edit" option from the "View Edit History Print" menu in the top right hand corner of the page and then use relatively simple text formatting rules to input or change text. Creating a link to your new page or someone else's page is as simple as putting [[double square brackets]] around the word or phrase you want to be the link. In the process of creating the link, you are creating the new page ready for you or someone else to edit. One of the good things about an "open-editing" system such as CMwiki is that you don't have to know much about the formatting rules to get your information online. Since other visitors can (and probably will) edit your page, they may well reformat your contribution during their visit. You can see some of the recent changes that others have posted to this site. If you wish to experiemnt with adding pages and editing them, please feel free to use the WikiSandbox. The Sandbox is cleared regularly so anything you do there will not be permanent. If you then wish to learn more about adding pages to this Wiki site, see basic editing. What is a wiki? The name 'wiki' is derived from the Hawaiian term "wiki wiki" which means quick or super-fast. A WikiWikiWeb or 'wiki' then is web based authoring system which encourages users to create new pages of information and edit existing pages. For many, this may sound like a recipe for disaster. It is possible for a site visitor to destroy everything on a page or on a number of pages, but experiences on other wikis indicates that the surprisingly complex and rich communities that have grown around the wiki have been able to keep this in check. This is aided by the fact that most wikis, including this one, have a built in mechanism for restoring content that has been defaced or destroyed. The point of the CMwiki system is to simply make it as quick, easy and rewarding as possible for visitors to create or edit online content. This is your opportunity to contribute and share your knowledge of Australian country music. Write whatever you choose to about the topic, its history, the music, the musicians, the concerts, the tours. Share your memories, the possibilities are endless.
